NICHES+ and "Tarzan on the bus" - site visit in Artois-Gohelle
21-08-09
Think about Tarzan and how he moves from one liana to another and never lets one liana go before he holds onto the next one. Travel training for older people uses this picture of Tarzan (ideally think of Johnny Weismüller) to make older people aware of how to move safely from one handle to the other on the bus.
This was just one of the many interesting lessons shared by Angelika Gasteiner from Stadtbus Salzburg with the NICHES+ Champion Region Artois-Gohelle in Northern France. At the end of July she was invited by the NICHES+ project as expert to share her extensive experience on travel training for older people with SMT (the transport authority of Artois-Gohelle) and the local operator Tadao. This included a site visit and a workshop that drafted a possible implementation scenario of travel training for older people in Artois-Gohelle. The approach of bringing together an expert that has already implemented an innovative concept with stakeholders who are seriously interested in realising a similar scheme was very fruitful. A site visit of SMT and Tadao to Salzburg has already been agreed to define the contents of a travel training scheme for older people in Artois-Gohelle.
